
Description
This observatory shares the summit of the Pachón hill with the Gemini Sur. The telescope mirror, with only 10 cm thick, is benefits from advanced technology that, by means of electromagnetic actuators, adjusts its profile to atmospheric conditions, thus providing a quality of image far superior to that of classic mirrors.
The SOAR corresponds to a 4.3-meter telescope of sophisticated technology inaugurated in September 2004 and operated by NOAO in collaboration with a board of universities and institutions from several countries in America.
